Project Overview

School within a school design gives DaVinci Academy its own identity.

When DaVinci Academy expanded to two grades, the school needed to carve out more space at an existing school. AMS created an innovative site design with four wings of tech-enabled, project-based learning space cleverly landscaped to provide a separate mini campus on the grounds of Maywood Middle School. Four classroom buildings, including a fully equipped STEM building, are highly sustainable, with high-efficiency HVAC systems reducing energy demand and large low-E windows and Solatubes streaming daylight throughout each learning space. The dedicated STEM building adds savvy upgrades like interior and exterior glass NanaWalls that reconfigure space for multiple uses, while providing natural ventilation and easy access to an outdoor courtyard.

  • Fully networked classrooms support resource and information sharing
  • Science/technology labs connect to a makerspace for STEAM programming
  • Continuous ventilation systems filter fresh air, ensuring excellent IAQ

High ceilings, Solatubes, glass doors and large, low-E windows brighten and visually expand an open floorplan that partitions into separate areas for learning, meeting and training. Wall-mounted 16’ whiteboards and modern conference capabilities work equally well for roundtable discussions, multimedia presentations and 21st century learning. Solar power saves energy, cuts costs and adds value, achieving multiple District goals.

  • 10kW PV panels and high-efficiency systems add cost-effective comfort
  • Foldable partitions reconfigure interior spaces for collaborative use
  • Custom galvanized metal wainscoting ties in with nearby buildings

Project Overview

Fully custom design creates a special place for children with special needs.

EUSD needed a conveniently located facility to provide specialized services for severely handicapped preschoolers within the District. AMS created a multi-use single-story building on the Olive Ranch campus, building to strict specs to meet a variety of educational and developmental needs in a safe, comfortable, well-lit environment with superior acoustics and IAQ. Special education classrooms, a therapy room, nurse’s room, observation room, quiet room, office, laundry and restrooms are all ADA-compliant with wide doorways and hallways for easy wheelchair access. The building exterior shares ranch-style design elements with other campus buildings, including lap siding, a steep pitch metal roof, tapered concrete pillars and olive green accents.

  • UltraUltra-quiet lighting and mechanical systems ensure sensory comfort
  • Angled shade canopy and entry awning cover wide walkways
  • The pitched roof raises ceilings, making interiors airy and inviting

Project Overview

AMS’ modern parapet design gives LPS Hayward an innovative edge.

Leadership Public Schools’ college-prep curriculum incorporates a variety of teaching and learning styles. To match the building to the curriculum, AMS reconfigured the charter school campus into modular flex-space capable of creating a variety of dynamic environments that promote active engagement. The open-concept design accommodates 250 for school assemblies, downsizing via folding partitions into smaller classrooms, labs and breakout areas. A raised 9’-6” ceiling, Solatubes and storefront windows maximize daylighting, keeping interiors bright and airy while reducing energy costs. A parapet roofline, floating overhangs and a custom mix of finishes create a contemporary façade that visually reinforces the school’s 21st century programming.

  • Tech-enabled infrastructure supports interactive learning
  • Collaborative area has markerboard walls for idea and work sharing
  • Classrooms connect to a large courtyard for indoor/outdoor learning

Project Overview

AMS 2GO blends high quality, low cost and fast delivery is one efficient space.

S.A.C. Prep needed to expand facilities on a tight schedule and budget, making AMS 2GO an economical solution for the growing charter school. AMS personalized a DSA pre-approved design to accelerate procurement, delivering the building on a summer schedule to avoid disruption on an occupied campus. While fast delivery was a priority, it was equally important that the building be quality construction, providing a comfortable, stimulating space for the school’s K-8 students. The relocatable building system is designed for optimum flexibility, with a large, open workspace supporting a mix of learning activities and instructional methods. The exterior complements existing buildings, maintaining the community feel the school cultivates.

  • 12’ ADA-compliant ramp with handrails provides easy access
  • Custom two-tone palette ties the building into the established campus
  • Freestanding restroom building has separate boys and girls facilities

Project Overview

Rebuilding a community. Restoring hope to a school.

When Riebli’s Extended Child Care facilities were destroyed by wildfires, MWUSD and the Extended Care Coalition of Sonoma County turned to AMS to get the program back up and running as quickly and affordably as possible. Adapting AMS’ DSA PC to fit Riebli’s needs expedited delivery of a high-quality, self-contained facility that clusters separate kindergarten and preteen buildings with two general classroom buildings, one with a kitchen buildout for the preparation of home-cooked meals. Each building’s large, open floorplan is safe, comfortable and well-lit, accommodating music, art, science and recreational activities in a single space. Durable, easy-care materials, like Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring, upgrade the look while withstanding heavy use.

  • Flex layout mixes study space with fun space for air hockey and pool
  • Kitchen features stainless steel countertops and appliances for hot meals
  • Quad configuration opens to shared outdoor courtyard and playground

Project Overview

Six schools. One STEAM design. GEN7 is an engine scalable growth.

Modeled after Union’s Dartmouth Middle School STEM building, GEN7’s DSA-approved STEAM design was replicated at all six USD elementary schools—a scalable solution that made a districtwide STEAM initiative easier and more cost-effective to execute. Interior and exterior glass NanaWalls maximize flexibility in a compact footprint, allowing one large, open makerspace to be divided into two separate activity areas while bringing natural ventilation and daylight to each space—an energy-saving strategy that ensures superior indoor air quality and comfort. Concrete floors, markerboard walls, acoustical ceilings and quiet, high-efficiency HVAC systems work together to buffer sound in spaces where young students are empowered to create and explore.

  • Flexible STEAM design scales for multiple uses and sites
  • Open flow and embedded IT technology promote collaborative learning
  • Sliding glass walls create fluidity between indoor/outdoor learning areas
