Project Overview
Open design, natural light and coastal finishes create an inviting library.
Carpenteria USD wanted to create a dynamic space for young students to engage their imaginations and develop lifelong learning skills. AMS partnered with the district to build a 60×40 modular learning center on the Canalino Elementary School campus, adapting a GEN7 Pre-Check design to expedite delivery of a large, wide-open space that can flex to accommodate a variety of activities. GEN7’s moment-steel frame is engineered for clear-span design, supporting the entire 2400-SF structure without columns. AMS customized the building to meet school and climate needs, adding special metal wall blocking for district-installed casework and library shelves, as well as coastal coating for HVAC coils. Hybrid stucco and a cool metal roof are climate-resilient, accented with a coastal palette and wainscot corner columns.
- All-steel and concrete construction is sustainable and durable in a coastal climate
- Large low-E windows bring in natural light, creating an inviting space for learning
- High-efficiency HVAC systems reduce energy usage while lowering operating costs
