Project Overview
Specialized spaces and features support diverse programs in one GEN7 building.
Santa Cruz City School District needed to add a variety of specialized spaces to meet the diverse needs of its education programs. The solution was a two-story 180×40 GEN7 classroom building that efficiently integrates standard, science and flex classrooms with a wood shop, computer lab, graphic design room and recording studios, each designed to meet specific requirements. To expedite plan approval, AMS customized a GEN7 Two-Story DSA-PC, reconfiguring space and tailoring features and finishes to the project’s unique needs. A proprietary floor system minimizes noise transmission between rooms and floors, keeping classrooms library-quiet while allowing activity in other spaces. Custom 14’ cantilevered overhangs support enclosed stairwells finished in brick veneer– a finish repeated on the building sides.
- Elevator tower has occupied space above and restrooms attached to the rear
- Retractable power cord reels are mounted in the wood shop’s open 11” ceiling
- Brick veneer accents elevate the façade, giving the school a distinctive identity
