"AMS brought a high-level of creativity and collaboration to the design of our project. As a result Rocketship has a fantastic school, one that garners complements for both its aesthetics and performance from teachers, parents and administrators alike. And, more than looking and feeling great, I stand behind AMS’ ability to deliver a high quality facility on fast schedule and tight budget."
Facilities Project Manager, Rocketship Education
Part of the Rocketship Education (RSED) charter school network, Rocketship Brilliant Minds (RBM) tailors its program to the learning needs of lower income students in East San Jose. RBM retained American Modular Systems (AMS) to complete Phase II of its expansion plan, replacing existing portable classrooms with a permanent two-story modular building that allowed the school to broaden enrollment from grades K-2 to K-5. The two-wing building maximizes the functionality of a compact space to include classrooms, transitional kindergarten space, administrative offices, a parent workroom, a multi-purpose room and restroom facilities.
AMS’ inventive design pushed the envelope to cost-effectively incorporate sustainability and architectural details into a very tight site plan on an accelerated timeline. Low-VOC materials, recycled steel and sub-flooring and low-flow urinals bring RBM to green building standards, with learning walls explaining the school’s sustainable features. A high efficiency HVAC system and extensive daylighting conserve electricity, allowing the building to exceed California’s Title 24 requirements. Custom exterior paint reflects Rocketship’s signature colors of green and purple, while a prominent entry accented with vertical elements repeated along the balcony make the exterior cutting-edge.
